CEREMONY NOTES
General Notes
1. Smug Pots
a. 13 on each side of the ceremonial ring (13 posts)
b. 2 at gate
c. 6 on sides of fire
d. 6 in fire triangle; 1 in each corner; 1 along each inside wall; the fire did not give off enough light; the addition of the smug spots will help
e. 4 in front of the alter
f. Total smug pots needed are at least 100 if you do the trail correctly
g. Weed eat under the pots on the trail
h. If short on smug pots use less on the trail
i. Put smug pots in trash bags
j. Don't move or touch smug pots in regalia due to the damage to the regalia.
2. Lighting Smug Pots
a. Smug pots will not last through both ceremonies even if you put more fuel in them and even if they burn long enough they get dim and many go out during the ordeal (second) ceremony
b. Light every other smug pot around the ring during the brotherhood ceremony, the smug pots next to the fire and the ones in the fire and in front of the alter
c. Have a second set of smug pots ready and when the brotherhood ceremony is over put out the ones used for the brotherhood ceremony, slide them over and put the fresh/new smug pots in there place; relight them all for the ordeal ceremony. Just put them next to the original ones. Don't try and move the hot ones.
d. Light smug pots with a candle; it works much better than matches etc.
e. Don't light them in regalia due to the safety hazard.
3. Torches
a. The 4 behind the alter need to be about 8 feet long;
b. The torches to carry need to be about 6 feet
c. Let the torches drain for at least 1 hour after soaking
4. Owl
a. Goes on the post to the east of the tree
b. Two torches by owl
5. Candles
a. Need 15 candles for alter plus some to use to light smug pots. Always get new ones.
Supplies needed from home:
1. 200 rolls of toilet paper
2. 15 candles (use the old ones from alter to light smug pots)
3. First Strike Matches or lighter
4. Omit
5. Two new spot lights bulbs for pre-ordeal ceremony
6. Take a cooler with lots of water and drinks to the ring Saturday for practice and ceremonies
7. Clean up:
a. Trash bags (full box) with ties – To store smug pots & for trash
b.Wet Ones – To clean diesel fuel off hands which is used to clean smug pot black off hands.
c. Paper Towels
8. Lanterns (needed for after ordeal ceremony)
Needed from supply shed (to ring):
1. 25 gallons of diesel fuel
2. Fire snuffers (at shed, rubber pads on long handles like shovels)
3. All 10 torches
4. Rake
5. Shovel
Where to get supplys:
There is a hardware store at 5-points behind the old theater. The road past the theater and another road to the 4-land make a triangle. It is on the west side of the triangle and barely visible. It has kerosene.
